A significant component of the long-term transformation of the Hunters Point site is the activation and development of a portion of the 32-acre site through interim use. This aspect of the project, known as NOW Hunters Point, had its first full year of programming in 2014.
Now Hunters Point has focused on the following key programmatic goals:
- Site Management
- Stakeholder engagement
- Local Partnerships and Capacity building
Devised as one component of a larger site redevelopment strategy, Urb-in began to develop the notion for interim site activation in 2010. After several years of benchmarking and feasibility studies Urb-in worked with their client PG&E to conduct and request for proposals for an interdisciplinary team to design and run an interim use program. In 2012, a team of designers lead by Envelope A+D and Studio O were awarded this project.
Working as the client’s principal consultant on the project, Urb-in worked with the assembled team to craft and oversee the development of the interim use program Now Hunters Point.
